Manion has been recognized by Insurance Business Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top Claim Management Services in Canada 2026,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “Top Insurance Claim Services in Canada,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Insurance Business Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Celia Eftimovski, Director of Claims and Ron Smitko, President.
Celia Eftimovski, Director of Claims and Ron Smitko, PresidentFor workers entering the construction trades, an apprenticeship can mark the beginning of a career spanning decades, along with a benefits relationship that evolves as their employment, health, family circumstances, and retirement needs change. Supporting members throughout that journey are multiemployer trust funds responsible for overseeing complex programs that extend far beyond processing claims. They must coordinate health and dental benefits, disability coverage, pension administration, eligibility management, contribution collection, financial administration, governance requirements, and member support while also helping trustees and employers make informed decisions about the plans they oversee.
This is where Manion operates. For more than five decades, the Canadian third-party administrator has worked alongside multiemployer trust funds, and plan sponsors as an extension of their administrative teams, managing every stage of the benefits lifecycle, including eligibility and contribution administration, claims processing, disability management, pension services, governance support, and member engagement. Its role spans the boardroom, where trustees address governance and plan decisions, the administration team managing day-to-day operations, and the member experience when a member needs to understand coverage or navigate a complex claim.
“We are with our clients from start to finish,” says Ron Smitko, President. “We support members throughout their careers and continue serving them into retirement.”
That embedded role shapes how Manion approaches administration. Since every trust fund operates differently, the company works closely with its clients to understand their governance structures, priorities, plan requirements, and member needs before tailoring administration, including claims handling, to each plan. Its involvement extends from boardroom consulting and governance support to day-to-day administration, giving trustees and employers a partner that understands both the operational demands of the plan and the people it serves.
Technology has become an essential part of delivering that experience, but Manion views digital transformation as a way to enhance personal service rather than replace it. Through the myManion platform, members have 24/7 access to benefits information, can check coverage when visiting a healthcare provider, and can receive reimbursements quickly. By automating routine claims, Manion processes approximately 86 percent of claims without manual intervention, allowing its teams to focus on more complex situations requiring human judgment. Despite claim volumes growing by more than 9 percent year over year, average manual claim turnaround improved from 2.5 days to 1.9 days.
“Technology allows us to automate routine work so we can focus on the situations where judgment, expertise, and personal interaction make the greatest difference,” says Celia Eftimovski, Director of Claims.
For Manion, benefits administration ultimately remains a people business. Members often seek support during complex health or financial situations, where they need help understanding coverage, coordinating benefits, or resolving claim questions. Manion provides responsive support, clear communication, and education to help members navigate these situations confidently. At the same time, the company balances members’ needs with trustees’ responsibility to administer plans responsibly and protect plan assets, and employers’ need for effective plan administration. Guided by “We care, you benefit,” this approach has earned the company recognition as the Top Claim Management Services in Canada 2026.
Looking ahead, Manion remains focused on sustainable growth through long-term partnerships. Continued investment in people, digital capabilities, and operational excellence will strengthen client support across Canada. By combining customized administration, experienced professionals, and technology, Manion helps trustees, employers, and plan sponsors deliver sustainable benefits programs and exceptional member experiences throughout every stage of the journey.
